Because Bioware again shipped some broken, old OpenAL32.dll where surround is not working properly here are steps to fix it.
- Download Openal Soft from https://openal-soft.org
- Put file from Win32/soft_oal.dll as OpenAL32.dll to Windows/SysWOW64 and file from Win64/soft_oal.dll as OpenAL32.dll to Windows/system32, override if necessary.
- Delete OpenAL32.dll from binaries in game directory.

To BIOEngine.ini in config directory in path like Mass Effect Legendary EditionGameME1BioGameConfig, make it read-only so game doesn’t override it. There should be already section like ISACTAudio.ISACTAudioDevice so put it there. Pdo file to.
- Run alsoft-config.exe from openal-soft-{version}-binalsoft-config and set your desired channels – in my case it’s 7.1 and click apply, you can try other options, whatever seem to be better for you.
- (Optionally) go to %appdata%, there should be file alsoft.ini and you can try adding two options there.

Volume-Adjust increases overall sound volume -24 to 24 and Front-Stablizer mixes sound from left and right channel to center.
- Just run a game, you should have surround sound working fine now.
- If it doesn’t work try restarting your PC.
- Also it might work if you replace dll only in a binaries folder – but i didn’t try it.

1 - Requirements
1: Mass Effect latest version. (The Steam version comes already updated)
2: Sign up at the Nexus. It's free and it takes 2 minutes. (LINK)
3: Start the game at least once before installing mods
2 - DLC Installation
The DLCs for Mass Effect have become free to download
Mass Effect DLC Download (LINK)
Download and install both 'Bring down the Sky' and 'Pinnacle Station'.
The product key for Pinnacle Station is: 5GUCXRFPQNBMTJBD3L5J (Free key available on EA's DLC site)
Note: If you get the following error message during installation: 'Mass Effect CD Key not found', then you need this small fix (LINK)
3 - Resolution Fix
If you would like to play the game in higher resolutions than you can select from the in-game menu, all you need to do us edit an ini file.
Open: C:Users(USERNAME)DocumentsBioWareMass EffectConfigBIOEngine.ini
Find:

Set your resolution.
For 4K, use:

Download and install, then run the program
Binkw32 proxy DLL (LINK)
Download the file for MASS Effect 1, and unpack into: Mass EffectBinaries
*Backup the two existing files first, just in case.
These two files makes it possible to load mods as DLCs.
Faster Elevators (LINK)
Download the file and drag it into the ME3Tweaks Mod Manager window. Follow instructions to install.
Same-Gender Romances for ME1 (LINK)
Download the file and drag it into the ME3Tweaks Mod Manager window. Follow instructions to install.
*Select everything except for the ME1 Recalibrated Compatibility patch.
*This mod is of course only needed, if you care for same-gender romance.
ALOT - A Lot Of Textures for ME1 (LINK)
Download 1: 'ALOT for ME1 11.0'
*Unpack the file to a temporary folder, but don't run the program yet. I'll refer to this folder as the 'ALOT' folder.
Download 2: 'ALOT for ME1 11.1 - Update'
Download 3: 'Improved Static Lighting for ME1'
*Copy the two zip files into the 'Downloaded_Mods' folder, inside the ALOT folder. Don't unpack them.
Don't run the program yet.
MEUITM (LINK)
Download: 'Mass Effect Anniversary Edition Direct Download'
Download and move the zip file into the ALOT folder. *Don't unpack the file.
ALOT - A Lot Of Textures for ME1
Run the installer.
Go to settings and select Show Mass Effect files only, by unselecting Mass Effect 2 & 3.
The installer should now look like this, with 4 check marks.
*If you don't have all 4 checkmarks, double-check the files you downloaded, and make sure they are copied to the right folder.
*Don't download 'A Lot of Videos for ME1'. The installer will only recognize the 1080p version, not the 4K version. Just leave that mod red and unchecked.
Click the green 'Configure' at the MEUITM mod, and choose your settings. I recommend using these:
Click 'Install for ME1', then click 'BUILD & INSTALL' and wait. This will take some time.
ALOV - A Lot of Videos for ME1 (LINK)
Download any version (I recommend the 4K resolution), and drag the file into the ME3Tweaks Mod Manager window. Follow instructions to install.
M1EP ReShade (DOWNLOAD)
Download and unpack into the Mass Effect game folder.
That's it. Mass Effect is ready for launch
*Note for Windows 10 users:
The Creators update for Windows 10 introduced a wide variety of problems, especially for games with custom renders like ENB or ReShade. If you encounter problems like messed-up graphics or extreme slowdowns, then follow the steps in number 4 here: (LINK) *Pay special attention to the RivaTuner settings.
If this doesn't work, then Windows is somehow still blocking it. Search Google for alternative ways of forcing Windows 10 to use custom d3d files. If you are unable to fix it, then you will have to uninstall the ReShade and play without. Just delete the d3d9.dll file but keep everything else.

Mass Effect is a science fiction action role-playing game developed by BioWare and released for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Windows in 2007/2008.
